چکیده

With currently recommended disk susceptibility tests, minimal inhibitory concentration correlates for amikacin were greater than 16 micrograms/ml for resistance and less than or equal to 12 micrograms/ml (not less than or equal to 8 micrograms/ml) for susceptibility. For gentamicin, they were greater than 8 micrograms/ml for resistance and less than or equal to 6 micrograms/ml (not less than or equal to 4 micrograms/ml) for susceptibility. Minor discrepancies between disk tests and minimal inhibitory concentration determinations will occur if only doubling dilutions of drug are used for measuring minimal inhibitory concentration values.

Colistin, an option for treatment of multiple drug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Introduction: Multi-drug resistant (MDR) P. aeruginosa is constantly increasing and causing severe issues in combatting widely spread health problems. The aim of this study was to assess colistin susceptibility in MDR P. aeruginosa isolates obtained from different infection sites. Methods: Ninety clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa were collected from different hospitals of the Tabriz Univer...

Antimicrobial Susceptibility Pattern of Clinical Isolates of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa in a Pediatric Hospital

Background and Objective: Pseudomonas aeruginosa has become a frequent cause of nosocomial infections, particularly in intensive care units (ICUs). Many reports have documented high rates of resistance in this species to commonly-used broad-spectrum antibiotics. The aim of this study was to assess the in vitro activity of some a...

Wide variability in Pseudomonas aeruginosa aminoglycoside results among seven susceptibility testing procedures.

Seven commonly used antimicrobial susceptibility testing methods were used to test the susceptibility of 150 isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa against gentamicin, tobramycin, amikacin, carbenicillin, and piperacillin. Results were compared with respect to the susceptibility characteristics of the population of isolates as defined by each method. Conventional methods included agar disk diffusio...

Antimicrobial susceptibility and minimal inhibitory concentration of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from septic ocular surface disease in different animal species

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antibiotic susceptibility profile of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from different animal species with septic ocular surface disease. Sixteen strains of P. aeruginosa were isolated from different species of animals (dog, cat, horse, penguin and brown bear) with ocular surface diseases such as conjunctivitis, keratocojnuctivits sicca and ulcerative ...

Comparative activity of tobramycin, amikacin, and gentamicin alone and with carbenicillin against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

The effect of gentamicin against 130 clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa was compared with that of two investigational aminoglycoside antibiotics, tobramycin and amikacin. Minimal inhibitory concentration data indicated that, on a weight basis, tobramycin was two to four times as active as gentamicin against most isolates. However, 14 of 18 organisms highly resistant to gentamicin (>/=8...
